BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — The start of the new school year is just around the corner, which means it's time for back to school shopping.
One local charity organization helped kids in needs get the right foot gear to go back to school Saturday.
It's all part of the fourth annual "Catholic Charities Kicks for Kids" event.
The organization teamed up with payless shoe stores to offer 1500 area kids vouchers to help pay for new shoes.
Event organizers say it's a way to help cut down cost for parents as they go into the new school year.
"I think it gives a kid a positive feeling about their return to school," said Catholic Charities Executive Director David Aguillard. "It's something no one else does. There are school back pack programs and uniform programs this is something that is unique to catholic charities. "
