14 year-old arrested for French Quarter iPhone theft
NEW ORLEANS, LA (FOX8) - An undercover police officer chased down an iphone robber minutes after the robber swiped the gadget from its owner, police say.
The incident happened yesterday around 4:30 p.m. near the corner of St. Louis and Chartres Streets.
A spokesman with the NOPD says the victim was texting when the 14 year-old and his accomplice, snatched the phone from him and took off.
The victim ran after the pair, but the suspects were apprehended by an officer who was working in plain clothes to enforce a panhandling ordinance.
The teen denied stealing the phone.
The officer asked the victim for his number, called the number, and the phone started ringing inside the suspect’s pocket.
The 14 year-old was charged with Simple Robbery.
It’s currently being investigated as to whether the teenager could be linked to other cell phone robberies.
