15 parents arrested in deadbeat warrant round-up

Individuals owed more than $429,000 in back child support

BATON ROUGE, La (WGMB)-- Fifteen deadbeat parents were arrested in an overnight warrant round-up.

A multi-agency law enforcement team initiated the round-up that targeted parents who have missed court appearances and owe more than $429,000 in past-due child support.

Parents whose cases could be heard Tuesday evening by Ad Hoc Judge Darrell White and Juvenile Court Judge Pamela Taylor Johnson were taken directly to court.

Out of the 15 arrested, 6 were booked into parish prison to serve time. Others were given suspended jail sentences subject to the conditions set by the judges to reduce their outstanding child support obligations.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, the East Baton Rouge District Attorney, the Baton Rouge Police, the Louisiana Department of Support Enforcement Services, the Louisiana Attorney General's Fugitive Unit, the Louisiana Office of Probation and Parole, the Baton Rouge City Constable, the Baker Police, and the Zachary Police all participated.

Tuesday night's actions bring the total number of deadbeat parents recovered by this multi-agency effort to 206 out of the 283 persons sought in the ongoing Crime Stoppers program.

Those not located will continue to appear in Crime Stopper's deadbeat fugitive program and will continue to be sought by these agencies' fugitive teams.
