BATON ROUGE, La (FOX44) - Lawmakers gathered at the LSU Law center today to celebrate the passing of a historic law.
On this day in 1990, The Children's Code was passed by the Louisiana Legislature. This law consolidates over eighty laws that deal with how juveniles are processed in our legal system.
Jefferson Parish Judge Nancy Konrad was directly responsible for drafting and enacting the Children's Code, she said it's important because it makes regulations easier to understand.
"We needed to bring everything together in one book where the information was easily accessible and we needed to write it in such a way that people who are not lawyers could pick it up and understand it." - said Judge Konrad
