Ascension Firefighters honor their fallen

Saturday, May 7, 2011 - 3:24pm

GONZALES, LA (FOX44) - Ascension firefighters gathered at Lamar-Dixon Saturday to pay tribute to their fallen brothers.

Several different Ascension Fire departments were represented today in support of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

They even brought down a recent New York City firefighter turned singer, Paul Cummings, to sing his popular "Firefighter song"

Cummings says it's about them, not him.

"They leave their families in the middle of the night, they leave birthdays, they leave dinners, you know to go help complete strangers. And that is what today is all about, today's about shedding light on what exactly these men and women are doing." said Cummings
