National survey says digital media, construction jobs up
BATON ROUGE, La (FOX44) -- If you're looking for a job, you just might be in the right place. A national survey named Baton Rouge the number one place in the country to find a job in 2011.
An employment service called Manpower surveyed employees in more than 100 cities to figure out who's hiring, and who's firing. According to results, Baton Rouge jobs are on the rise, especially in construction, biofuels and wood products, and healthcare. That's thanks to several new hospitals being built in the area.
A booming film industry has given hope to people working in the digital media field. One local business, DigitalFX, has already started to see those changes.
"We're adding new visual effects, animation, and editing suites, and as we have more demand for these services, we'll be adding staff to accomodate that," says President Greg Milneck.
The post-production company has been under construction for quite some time. It's slated to be finished at the end of January. DigitalFX currently employs 12 people. The company plans to double that in the next couple of years.
It's not all good news for Baton Rouge. Government jobs remain about the same. That's because the budget won't allow job growth for this fiscal year, at least not until March 2011.
