BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) -- A new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ranks the Baton Rouge metro area number 1 in the United States for AIDS cases.
The Capitol City has a rate of 33.7, which means 33 out of every 100,000 people have AIDS. The rating has always been high. Baton Rouge was second in the country for AIDS cases in 2010 and 2011 and third in 2009.
This year it surpassed Miami for the top spot.
Advocates to stop the spread of the AIDS epidemic say people need to be tested. If you want to get tested, now's your chance. The Baton Rouge Aids Society is testing for HIV at the CATS terminal on Florida Blvd Saturday March 17th. That's happening from 10:00 to 2:00.
