WHISKEY BAY, LA (FOX44) — The Lafayette Police Department has confirmed that the bike of missing cyclist Mickey Shunick was found today at the Whiskey Bay exit.
We’re told fishermen in the area spotted the bike and called it in to the devoted tip line that was established last week by the Lafayette Police Department. We’re told that several police agencies are on scene and searching the area.
“We got the information this morning and as soon as we got the information we found the area and have since quartered this off,” Cpl. Paul Mouton, Lafayette Police Department, explained.
Law enforcement agencies participating in the search include Lafayette Police, Iberia Sheriff, St. Martin Sheriff, State Police, St. Mary, and Wildlife and Fisheries. We’re told a mobile command unit is also on scene as well as K9 units.
Mickey Shunick went missing on Saturday, May 19 shortly before 2:00 a.m. Massive search parties have searched the Lafayette and surrounding area for the past week. The first breakthrough in the case came on Friday, May 25 when surveillance images captured Shunick riding her bike along the path she was expected to be riding towards her home. Two vehicles of interest were also identified.
