On the one year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon disaster and BP oil spill, a shocking announcement. FOX44 News Baton Rouge has just learned that BP is suing the maker of the blowout preventer that failed to stop last year’s explosion.
The British company filed papers in Federal Court in New Orleans on Wednesday. They say the blowout preventer made by Cameron International was a faulty design, and that’s what caused the unreasonable amount of risk and harm that followed the explosion.
The suit seeks damages to help BP pay for tens of billions of dollars in liabilities it has incurred from the disaster.
Today the nation paused to remember the 11 lives lost one year ago today, and the more than 200 million gallons of oil that spewed from the undersea well.
