AROUND THE WORLD (FOX44) – Brazil, at least a dozen kids are dead after a gunman opens fire on an elementary school in Rio Day Janeiro. Sources say the 23-year old shooter used to go to the school and returned claiming to be a guest speaker. He was killed but its unclear if police shot him or if he turned the gun on himself.

Mexico – More rumblings here caused by a 6.5 earthquake. It got people running from their office buildings straight into the streets. There were no serious reports of damage.

Israel – A school bus was hit by a missile fired from the Gaza Strip. Reports say a teen and several others were seriously hurt. The Israeli military responded by firing back. That attack killed at least eight people and a 4-year old girl.

United States – Police say an explosion near a Jewish Synagogue was not a bomb. Officials think some sort of mechanical failure sent a large pipe flying through the air and straight into someone's roof. The blast shattered windows at the synagogue.

– Also in the United States, the cobra that went missing for a week at the Bronx zoo has a new name, “MIA” the acronym for missing in action. The venomous snake back in her enclosure after someone found her curled up in a dark corner.

Japan – There was a 7.1 magnitude tremor off the Northeastern coast. A tsunami alert was issued but then canceled 90 minutes later. The operators of the troubled nuclear plant say so far there are no signs of additional damage.
