BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) -- It’s official! Mayor Kip Holden announced today that “Breakout Kings” will begin filming its second season right here in Baton Rouge. That’s set to start in October.

We will have the full report on FOX44 News at 9 p.m.

ORIGINAL STORY (08-26-11) -- Will they or won’t they is the question being asked about the A&E hit show “Breakout Kings,” and Twitter is responsible.

Co-creator of the show, Nick Santora, tweeted on Aug. 19, “no we aren't filming BREAKOUT KINGS in Toronto this season. We will be in Baton Rouge.” He also notes that filming for the second season will begin in October.

If the show relocates to Baton Rouge, it could be huge for the local entertainment industry. The drama about ex-cons teaming up with U.S. Marshals to catch criminals brought in 2.8 million viewers after its debut episode aired in March 2011. However, Chris Stelly, Executive Director of Louisiana Entertainment, says he cannot confirm that this move is in fact going to happen.

“While my office is aware that this production is very interested in filming in Louisiana, I have not received an application, nor can I confirm or deny their official status as of this time,” Stelly said with an official comment issued to FOX44 News. “That being said, this production, should it determine that Louisiana is the best place for filming, will be another great title to add to our ever expanding canon of work.”

The film industry has taken an expanded interest in Louisiana due to its competitive tax incentive program – one that rivals most others in the nation. The incentives have propelled Louisiana’s film production to being third in the nation.

“It speaks volumes to the credibility of our incentive program and the hard work that is being done by our office to provide stability for filmmakers. In addition, if they do decide that Baton Rouge is their new home, then I’m certain that Mayor Holden, Amy Mitchell-Smith as well as other city officials will make their filming experience second to none.”
