Burglary suspect in Gretna files lawsuit for K-9 bite
GRETNA, La (FOX44) - A Louisiana man has filed a 30-million dollar lawsuit against the Gretna Police Department after he claims his genitalia was bitten by a police K-9.
In May, Cody Melancon says he was attacked in his home by a Gretna Police Department K-9.
Melancon says the dog didn’t go for his arm or leg, instead for his groin area.
The lawsuit says the dog, whose name is "Zin" did permanent damage to Melancon. The lawsuit alleges "Zin" repeatedly bit down on Melancon's genitalia, causing mental anguish, loss of sexual function, and severe nerve damage.
Gretna Police Chief Arthur Lawson says the lawsuit is frivolous, and calls the money demands ridiculous.
An internal investigation is still on-going.
Police went to Melancon's home to arrest him for simple battery and aggravated burglary.
