BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) -- The Southern Jaguar baseball team has been on a bit of a tear as of late. The team has won seven straight games and is currently in second place in the SWAC's western division.
"Catching so many L's and losing so many games everyone got tired and finally it was time to step up,” senior DeMario Ellis said of a midseason slump in which the Jags lost seven straight.
"I'd rather get streaky now at the end rather than streaky early and get cold. Everyone was panicking a little but I knew we would get it together,” junior pitcher Daniel Garcia said
The Jaguars hope their stellar play continues as they take a trip to take on the first place team in the SWAC’s western division, Prairie View A&M (22-15, 11-3). Playing away from home may be just what the doctor ordered.
“I think our confidence level is a little better on the road. We don't have to worry about mom and dad, friends and girlfriends, associates. When they get on the bus, as a coach you can feel the unspoken body language," head coach Roger Cador said.
“There is no school or any conflicts getting in our way. I think we do play better on the road because there are no distractions,” Garcia added.
Southern (22-14, 11-7) will begin their series at Prairie View Saturday at Noon.
