HAMMOND, LA (WGMB) - Christmas lights are staying on the shelves at Southeastern Louisiana University.
The school spends about $3000 putting up christmas lights and sending out cards every year. With rising tuition administrators decided to use the money for student scholarships. Tuition at SLU rose 10% this year alone, and the same thing is expected for next year.
Students we spoke with say they're okay with the scaling back of the christmas spirit.
The money for the lights and cards came from the SLU Foundation, a private organization. Students and faculty will still see christmas trees and wreaths up on campus.
