Company digs into your online background

BATON ROUGE, La (FOX44) — Potential employers might not have time to give you an extensive online background check, but one company certainly does. In fact, Social Intelligence specializes in just that.

Social Intelligence is hired by employers that are hiring you. It's the company's job to do some digging into your online history, and they aren't just focusing on your social networking sites, like Facebook and Twitter.

This group is looking for the negative, like racist remarks or evidence of illegal activity, and the positive, like volunteer work and getting involved with your industry. All of that information, photos, and videos are then compiled and given back to the employer to review.

"It may be a bit more intensive than something Exxon might do, or any other number of companies, but it's not going to be something that I think would surprise a lot of people," says Blake Winchell with LSU Career Services.

Experts suggest cleaning up your act online by removing certain photos and getting rid of online friends who might place you in a negative light.
