Monday, May 9, 2011 - 3:47pm

The Army Corps of Engineers partially opening the Bonnet Carre spillway today for the first time since 2008.
Fresh water from the river will be re-routed to Lake Pontchartrain and out into the
Gulf of Mexico.
This is expected to help stabilize river levels.
It also helps reduce fresh water, which poses a danger to oyster grounds that are beginning to recover from last year's BP oil spill.
