Copper theft thwarted by criminal getting electrocuted

A copper thief was electrocuted while attempting to steal copper in St. Martinville on March 29.

St. Martin Parish Deputies were notified of a medical emergency that occurred at the SLEMCO Electric Sub Plant in St. Martinville, LA.

Deputies learned after arriving at the hospital that the injuries occurred to Jules Johnson, 35, the suspect of an attempted copper theft. He was electrocuted while attempting to retrieve the copper, receiving 2nd and 3rd degree burns.

Upon his release from the hospital, he will face criminal charges relating to this incident.
