Couple arrested for operating mobile meth lab
BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — An early morning arrest placed a man and woman behind bars for operating a rolling meth lab. Hazmat crews and narcotics officers were called to the scene around midnight.
Officials say the duo were operating a “shake and bake” meth lab out of their vehicle as it was traveling down Florida Boulevard near Lobdell in Baton Rouge. At the same time, a Baton Rouge Police Officer was in route to a burglary in the area.
We're told the officer noticed the car parked in the roadway. When the officer got close to the vehicle, the driver took off.
The officer then followed behind, and noticed the passenger of the vehicle throwing items out the window. The driver eventually pulled over, and that’s when the officer found bottles of acid, sulfuric acid and fertilizer in the vehicle.
Matthew Watkins of Mississippi and Ashley Stewart of Pearl River, La., were both arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
