SLIDELL, LA (FOX44) — A marijuana grow operation set a house on fire in Slidell yesterday afternoon.

The fire started at around 3:45 p.m. on Ninth Ave. When the fire was put out and investigators began working to determine a cause, they found remnants of a marijuana grow operation in the attic of the home.

The renter of the home, Philip Poteet, 35, of Covington admitted to firemen that he was growing marijuana and that a lamp was what set the home on fire.

Detectives from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Narcotics Division found numerous items related to a marijuana grow operation including grow lamps, timers, soil, as well as marijuana itself.

Poteet said he was growing the marijuana for personal medical use, not for distribution. He was arrested and booked into the jail on one count of Cultivating Marijuana.
