Crossing Concerns

DOTD wants to close 3 in Tangipahoa Parish

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La (WGMB) - Three railroad crossings in Tangipahoa Parish could be closed by the State.
Safety concerns at Babb in the village of Tangipahoa and Reverend J White Road and Capace Road in Independence are putting the crossings in danger of being closed.

Now - several council members, along with the people who use the crossings are working to stop the closures from happening. They say alternate routes aren't effective, and could lead to more congestion at other crossings.

In a statement toFOX 44 News Baton Rouge - DOTD says
"Babb Street, Capace Road and Pope Lane are parish roads. DOTD had previously recommended to the parish that these crossings be closed. The crossings were recommended for closure because they are redundant. The public has access to these areas via other crossings with safety gates."

Tangipahoa Council and DOTD will meet next month to make a final decision.
