Dalton Street shooting leads to police standoff

BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) -- There is still no word on who shot and killed a man in North Baton Rouge this morning. Police say Derrick Williams, 33, was shot in the chest multiple times in the front yard of a Dalton Street home around 10am. He was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Initially, witnesses told officers that the shooter was still inside the home. After bringing dozens of police, and a SWAT team to the scene, officers charged into the house, and found it empty.

A group of concerned citizens in Baton Rouge have formed a Facebook group devoted to communicating information about crime happening in the city. The goal is to make people aware to help keep more eyes searching for suspects, while also helping to keep the streets safer.
