ST CHARLES PARISH, LA (FOX8) -- The St Charles Parish Sheriff's Office has arrested a deputy accused of writing fake seatbelt citations while working on grant funded overtime.
A spokesperson for the sheriff's office says between February and May, Deputy William S. Marciante, Jr. falsified 21 citations in the names of un-suspecting drivers who were never actually stopped.
During the investigation, detectives searched through Marciante's computer and dash cam and found none of the traffic stops took place and that Marciante falsifed his time sheet and didn't actually work overtime.
The seatbelt enforcement overtime was made possible through grant money from the state's Highway Safety Administration.
He was fired today and is currently being held on a $50,000 bond. Marciante was with the sheriff's office for five years.
