Dollar General shoplifter takes law enforcement agencies on wild chase
PONCHATOULA, LA (FOX44) — A man accused of shoplifting from a Dollar General Store in Tangipahoa Parish took law enforcement on a wild chase in the early morning on Thursday, Feb. 16. After fleeing in a vehicle, the man allegedly tried to “run over” responding officers.
Officials with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office say they were called to assist the Ponchatoula Police Department just after 8:00 a.m. When they arrived, the suspect, Murray Jackson, 60, was trying to getaway on I-55.
Sheriff’s Deputies deployed spike strips and were able to stop the vehicle. But when they attempted to arrest Jackson, he resisted. Officials say they had to use a “chemical agent” to subdue him.
Jackson was arrested and taken to the St. John Sheriff’s Office Jail. He will be booked as a fugitive from Tangipahoa Parish and will then be transported to the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.
Jackson has been charged with Outstanding Felony Warrants, and Fugitive from Ponchatoula Police Department. Officials did not list whether he is charged with the original complaint of shoplifting.
