BATON ROUGE, La (WVLA) -- Mayor-President Kip Holden announced today that Don Evans, the longtime director of information services for the city-parish, has resigned. Evan’s resignation comes on the heals of accusations that he accepted kick backs from companies supplying the city’s crime cameras.

The Mayor’s office confirmed today that Evans is being investigated by Jim Letten, the U.S. Attorney in New Orleans. NBC33 News contacted Letten’s office, but they had no comment.

Evans official resignation date is October 31, but today the mayor put Evans on leave, so he will not return to the job. When asked for comment, the mayor said this is a personnel matter and he cannot comment further.

NBC33 News has tried to track down Evans for the past month, but he was temporarily out of the office due to an illness in his family, and this week, he was out due to an illness himself.
