BATON ROUGE, LA (fox44) — Today drivers were asked to put away their car keys and use public transportation as part of national Dump the Pump day.
The sixth annual event here in Baton Rouge was a chance for CATS to show off hte newest member of its public transportation team, the trolley. It is one of three tentatively scheduled to start running on Monday throughout downtown Baton Rouge.
CATS CEO Brian Marshall says, along with saving money, safety is another reason to use public transportation, "there is a real increase in improvement in safety when people choose buses versus so many private autos on the road."
The trolleys were bought with federal stimulus dollars
