NEW ORLEANS, LA (FOX8) - A major accident has closed both sides of Interstate 10 at Michoud in New Orleans East.
New Orleans Police say the accident happened around 4am. Two people were killed in the crash.
At least 40 vehicles were involved in the pileup; several of those were 18-wheeler trucks.
Police say 22 people were transported to the hospital. Their injuries range from minor to critical.
37 additional people suffered minor injuries that refused treatment.
One fireman was also injured. He suffered a minor laceration to his face.
Drivers should expect detours. I-10W traffic must exit at Hwy 11 to US 90. I-10E drivers will exit at Chef/Hwy 90 to US 11.
A cause of the accident has yet to be determined.
The identities of the deceased victims have not been released.
