BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — An early morning fire claimed the life of a Baton Rouge resident. So far, investigators do not suspect foul play.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to the call on Sherwood Street just after 5:00 a.m. When they arrived, they found the detached garage of the home fully engulfed in flames. We’re told the first firefighters on scene reported that the flames were as high as fifty feet.
Investigators believe that oxygen and acetylene bottles were stored in the garage and served as fuel for the fire.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control before it reached the home. However, once the fire was extinguished, they discovered a person inside the garage.
The garage was completely destroyed.
We do not know at this time if anyone else was in the residence.
