Gunman tries to kill ex-girlfriend, takes own life
SHREVEPORT, LA — One person is dead after an attempted murder ends in suicide.
At around 9:59 p.m. on Monday, Shreveport police were called to a home in the 1300 block of Lawhon Street to a reported shooting. When they arrived, officers found Lakeisha Robinson, 33, was suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. Robinson was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
Detectives learned the victim was allegedly confronted at her home by her ex-boyfriend, later identified as 46-year old O.B. Mitchell. According to witnesses, as well as evidence recovered at the scene of the crime, Mitchell was trying to break in when Robinson ran from the house and was shot.
The gunman fled the scene and was spotted driving south on Interstate 49. Following a pursuit, Mitchell apparently shot himself and was later pronounced dead.
Troopers with the Louisiana State Police are investigating that incident.
