THIS IS A FOX44 NEWS UPDATE: Jeremiah Wright, the man who admitted to killing and beheading his 7-year-old disabled child, was declared unfit to stand trial. That order came from Lafourche Parish Judge John LeBlanc on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Wright was ordered to have a psychiatric evaluation back at the end of August.

THIBODEAUX, La (FOX44) — The grusome murder of a seven-year-old disabled child has the small town of Thibodaux completely shocked Monday, Aug. 15. Investigators say Jeremiah Wright, 30, confessed decapitating Jori Lirette in his kitchen Sunday afternoon.

Police say he then put the child's body in a trash bag, but purposely left his son's head on the side of the road in front of his house. Wright initially told investigators the head belonged to a CPR dummy, but later, he admitted to the murder.

Police say there is no motive in the murder. He is currently booked in the LaFourche Parish Detention Center in complete isolation.

"I love you very much, Jori," his mother, Jesslyn Lirette says through tears. "I wish you could be here today, but you're not."

Jori's brutal murder has left Jesslyn with a hole in her heart. "He was my star," she says.

She is not alone in her grief. An entire community has come together with an outpouring of love and support for Jori and his family.

"The community is absolutely shocked. It just shows that we're not desensitized to this kind of thing," says police chief, Scott Silverii.

Stuffed animals, flowers, and ballons pile up on Jori's porch, a growing memorial created by family and friends in his honor. Those who knew Jori, who was confined to a wheelchair and reliant on a feeding tube, say his life was defined by goodness.

"Even though he could not express his feelings to us, he could with a smile," says his principal, Diane Smith. "Almost all of our students knew Jori. Everyone loved him."

Though Jori's life was cut tragically short, loved ones say, his memory will live on forever.
