Baton Rouge, La (FOX44) — The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Department, along with local residents, used martial arts to get connected to the community.

It’s all part of the Sheriff’s Department’s community outreach program. The purpose is to build relationships between residents and law enforcement. Karate was picked because it helps teach discipline.
The purpose of the karate class was also to have Baton Rouge residents become “Champion Citizens” by using their “heads, hearts and good habits”.
