Krotz Springs police officers resign
Newly-elected police chief searching for new staff
KROTZ SPRINGS, La (FOX44) -- The newly-elected police chief in Krotz Springs is flying solo. That's after almost his entire department resigned over the weekend.
Norman Mouille took office this weekend after unseating longtime police chief Susie Laccassin. When he was sworn in, his police officers walked out. The officers were worried that there was no guarantee they'd have jobs once he came into office, so they found other employment.
Krotz Springs residents are divided on the issue. "He should have had police officers lined up. He should have asked the police officers if they was going to stay," says Karen Johnfroe.
"They should have stayed and gave him a chance," says Tessie Mouton. "Maybe he would have been a good boss, too."
Mouille did not make himself available for comment today, but residents say he has help while he tries to find a new staff. St. Landry parish deputies currently providing extra protection for the town.
