An anonymous tip to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office led deputies to a disturbing case of animal cruelty. Two dogs were found in terrible conditions. One was so emaciated it had to be euthanized.

When the Deputy arrived at the home of Vernon Glenn Hollingsworth in Springfield, La, they found a black lab chained to a nearby dog house. The animal was very thin and its only source of water was located four feet away from the tied up animal.

In much worse condition was a boxer located inside the dog house that the lab was chained to. When Hollingsworth opened the door to the doghouse, the boxer took a few steps out then collapsed on the ground.

When questioned about the condition of the animals, Hollingsworth told the deputy he had no job and was unable to care for the dogs. He told the deputy that he would borrow food from neighbors and family to feed the dogs. The condition of the boxer, however, was too far gone.

Both animals were rescued by Randy Stegal of the Tangipahoa Humane Society. The Boxer had to be euthanized due to its condition. The Lab is expected to recover.
