Louisiana Residents gather for the state's 200th Birthday

BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) - "It's our culture, it's our culture, it's how we were raised," said Sydney Burchfield, a Louisiana resident.

Hundreds flocked to downtown Baton Rouge Saturday to enjoy all the food, sights, and sounds of Louisiana.

"We've got food demonstrations, all kinds of great Louisiana food, music from all over the state, everything's free," said Lt. Governor, Jay Dardenne.

And that's not all, there were also plenty of activities like spacewalks, rockwalls, and even a Blackhawk Helicopter brought in by the Lousiana National Guard.

They were out in force to exhibit Louisiana's proud military tradition.

"It's an opportunity for us to reflect on 200 years of remarkable history," said Dardenne.

There were also people dressed up in old Louisiana garb, and with all the interesting old world crafts they were doing, it made you truly feel like you stepped back in time.

"They need to come out and experience this, it's not going to happen again, you only turn 200 once," said Burchfield.

It was a great day to be outside, to eat, drink, and be a Louisianian.

"What are you doing on the couch? What's the point of that? That's not partying and having fun," said Burchfield.
