BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) -- Chico Garcia, the LSU cheerleading coach hurt in a boating accident back in August, is being released from the hospital today. And he's getting a big send off surprise. But Chico is not going home. He is being transferred from Our Lady of the Lake Hospital Friday morning to a rehab hospital in Atlanta.

His fellow cheerleaders, who've stuck by his side this whole time, are sending him off with a pep rally at the airport.

The 29-year-old will begin a tough rehab regimen at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. The center specializes in spinal cord and brain injury treatments and is one of the top rehabilitation hospitals in the country.

Chico is paralyzed from the chest down, and he can't feel his arms. We're told there is hope that with this specialized treatment and time that could change.

Chico has been in intensive care at OLOL since a boat crash in the Diversion Canal on August 27.
