Friday, May 27, 2011 - 1:41pm

The Tigers played their final game of their exhibition tour of Italy and finished 6-0 with a 92-74 victory over Basket 7 Laghi of Gazzada Schianno in Milan. The team will leave early Friday morning (Milan time) and return to New Orleans at approximately 6 p.m. Friday evening CDT. Here is a recap of their final full day in Italy:

Day 9: Thursday, May 26, 2011
The LSU Tigers finished their six game Italy tour with a 92-74 victory versus Basket 7 Laghi of Gazzada Schianno. With a 8:30pm tip-off and an adjustment to play 10 minute quarters, the hometown crowd was excited for the game. Both teams shot the ball well during the first quarter as the Tigers had a slim margin of 24-23. Solid play from both teams continued during the second quarter as there were four different lead changes. With 2:23 left to go in the fist half LSU trailed by 1, but went on an 11-2 run and secured a 48-40 halftime lead. The Tigers were able to carry the momentum into the second half, and started the 3rd quarter with a 10-4 run. As the defensive intensity increased, so did the lead and all eleven Tigers contributed to the win.

"It was a physical, tough, and hard fought game," said Coach Trent Johnson. "They had three guys that reminded me of [Anatoly] Bose and they shot the ball well. But, at the start of the second half we made plays at both ends of the floor which showed our improvements this spring and during this tour. Not to mention, we played through some fatigue - three games in three nights."

Earlier in the day, the team went on a boat tour of Lago di Como (Lake Como). Lake Como is a popular tourist destination and retreat, it is the third largest lake in Italy, and is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful lakes in Italy. The team also had a chance to walk through the city of Bellagio, which sits on the south shore of Lake Como.

"After six games and two practices in nine days, our coaching staff is pleased with our improvements heading into the summer," remarked Coach Johnson. "We had a great educational experience and we look forward to a safe trip back to Baton Rouge."
