BATON ROUGE, La (FOX44) - The LSU softball team has a new head coach and he's someone who is very familiar with the program he's about to take over. Patrick Murphy led Alabama to over 700 wins and seven Women's College World Series appearances and six SEC championships will take over for the recently retired Yvette Girouard.
“We are very excited to bring Patrick to LSU to lead our softball program,” LSU Athletic Directory Joe Alleva said. “Patrick has done an outstanding job building Alabama into one of the nation’s premier programs. When Yvette (Girouard) retired we lost a Hall of Fame coach. We feel like we are replacing Yvette with a future Hall of Famer.”
A press conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday to introduce Murphy.
