BATON ROUGE, La (FOX44) - Mississippi Valley State came to Baton Rouge searching for their first win of the season. The Delta Devils came up just short by falling to LSU, 10-8.

The Tigers scored six runs in the first inning but that wasn't enough as the pesky Devils battled back and kept the game within reach. LSU relief pitcher Matty Ott closed the door in the ninth inning recording his 29th career save. The perfect inning by Ott tied the LSU record set by Rick Greene.

"Mississippi Valley State is a very competitive, scrappy team and I'm just glad we won the game,"LSU Head Coach Paul Mainieri said. "The last time we played them in 2009 it took a grand slam late in the game to beat them. I thought there were a lot of very positive factors in this win, and I'm very pleased we earned this victory."

LSU freshman JaCoby Jones went 3-for-3 on the night with a home run and three runs batted in. Mason Katz went 2-for-4 and has hit safely in every game thus far.

LSU starter Daniel Bradshaw lasted only 2.1 innings as he gave up five runs in his first start of the season. Jimmy Dykstra pitched 3.2 innings allowing only one run while picking up his first win as an LSU Tiger.

LSU (9-0) will take on Princeton (0-0) in a three-game series this weekend in Alex Box Stadium. Game 1 begins Friday at 7 p.m. CST.
