LSU System President John Lombardi is voted out
BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) - With the raising of 12 hands LSU System President Dr. John Lombardi was out of the job.
"With months left on his contract, you’re going to do away with the voice of LSU at the legislature, " said LSU Board Member, Tony Falterman.
It's that voice that could be the reason for today's decision.
"We know very well, you've been under pressure to vote one way or another and we hope you'll see the support of thousands of educated people," said LSU Faculty Senate President, Kellen Cope.
Lombardi spoke out in the legislature for higher education, often against lawmakers.
Last night an alleged push from the Jindal administration prompted the board to take the fate of the LSU systems in a new direction.
" The fact we don't seem to have a functional relationship with our system, and the way we are represented..” said Perry.
The governor released a statement this evening supporting the board's decision.
"I have been very, very pleased with his leadership, of all the things that have gone on, he's brought us through some very, very difficult times,"said LSU Board Member, Laura Leach.
And had nine months left on his contract.
Lombardi will still be paid "most" of his 550-thousand dollar salary through the end of his contract... Which ends in January.
Those who voted to save Lombardi say the fate of the LSU system is now in Jeopordy.
"You should be worried about LSU, you should be worried about education," said Falterman.
