Man arrested for shooting hunting dog
TANGIPAHOA, LA (FOX44) — A Kentwood man was arrested for Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. Officials say that’s because he shot and killed a hunting dog last week.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office says Charles J. Russell, 47, was spotted running away from the area when the dog was found shot. The dog was a part of a hunting party that was scouting for raccoons in the area.
The hunters were in the area of Hwy 440 when they sent their dogs off to track raccoons. Shortly thereafter the men heard the dogs barking and then five gun shots. The hunters ran to the area where the shots came from. That’s when they saw Russell run away from the location to a nearby home. They say when he got inside, he turned all the lights off.
The men found one dog lying dead in a creek nearby. Officials say it was apparent the dog had been shot.
Russell was arrested by Sheriff’s Deputies and charged with Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
