Man hits two cyclists, killing one; released on bond today
BATON ROUGE, La (FOX44) — A supposed drunk driver who ran over two cyclists, killing one of them, is out of jail, and many Baton Rouge residents are none too happy about it.
The Facebook event urged thousands of Baton Rouge residents to call city leaders and law enforcement officials today, with the ultimate goal of putting Joseph Branch back in jail.
Branch allegedly had a blood alcohol level of four times the legal limit when he hit and killed Nathan Crowson on Perkins Road January 21.
It was his second DWI.
Branch bailed out of prison on a $90,000 dollar bond, but concerned cyclists say, he shouldn't be allowed to drive the streets of Baton Rouge.
"It’s not just Mr. Branch in particular,” stated cyclist Brandon Frederick. “Anybody that's been convicted of multiple DWI's is just a growing nuisance and a threat to the law abiders who use the road, whether in a car, a pedestrian, or on a bicycle."
District Attorney Hillar Moore received several emails about the issue today, and responded to each one individually.
