BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — A suspect trying to rob an elderly man shoots himself in the leg on Sunday, Dec. 18.
Baton Rouge Police say an 18-year-old tried to rob and 89-year-old man who was washing his car Sunday afternoon. When the elderly man refused to hand over his money, the teen grabbed his gun, but apparently shot himself in the leg and got into a get away car.
Police ended up finding the suspect.
"It was a matter of minutes,” Yvonne Byrd, daughter of the man who was the victim of the attempted robbery, explained. “I thank them profusely, it was unbelievable how quickly they caught the guy, with a description of the vehicle, and knowing that the guy had accidentally shot himself, they had him in a matter of minutes. He was on Greenwell Springs near Auto Zone."
Baton Rouge Police questioned the driver of the car. The driver was a 17-year-old female.
The gunman is currently in the hospital and will be arrested once he's released.
