DONALDSONVILLE, LA. (FOX44) — Tommy Martinez took his oath of office as Ascension Parish's President.
He's excited to get going as his next and possibly final term as the Parish's head man,"Quite an honor. I thank the people of Ascension Parish for the vote of confidence. We're continuing growing, , .challenges, getting bigger," says Martinez.
Ascension Parish is one of the fastest growing parishes in the entire state. Tommy Martinez knows, entering now his fourth term as parish president, to keep up the focus needs to be on infrastructure. "I met with D.O.T.D. I'm going to work with them to come up with some sort of program. A program they've got where they transfer state roads over to the parish, provide some money for the upkeep of them over the next twenty years," states Martinez.
He plans on putting a sales taz initiative on the ballot next November to try and pay for the upkeep of the roads. He says his road improvement plan will be simiar to East Baton Rouge Parish's Green Light Program.
That's not all Martinez plans on doing. He's also trying to get a parishwide sewer system up and running. He's hoping to get the ball rolling on both of these initiatives as soon as possible,"I'm not going to get everything done, but I'm optimistic that I'll get everything off the ground. I'm not going to say leave. I don't want to say that, but make sure that Ascension Parish is in great shape after these four years," says Martinez.
