The May job numbers are out and its not looking good, especially for Louisiana museums
LOUISIANA (FOX44) - Bad news on the job front, almost 14 million Americans are now unemployed .
The May job numbers are out, and they show only 54-thousand jobs were added last month, that's the fewest in eight months.
This indicates the economy is slowing, and it has a lot to do with gas prices and manufacturing problems stemming from the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
The country's unemployment rate now sits at nine-point-one percent.
On the job front here in Louisiana, employees at state museums are fearing pink slips.
Secretary of State Tom Schedler told them if proposed budget cuts pass this year, some of the 17 museums under his jurisdiction could close.
Right now, Schedler has almost three million dollars in state money.
There are plans at the Capitol to slash one and a half million of that.
