Money from BP oil spill helping some familes with child support
LOUISIANA (FOX44) - A new program is helping thousands of families collect on child support that's never been paid.
The Department of Children and Family Services says more than nine thousand people who filed a claim with BP owe back child support.
They've used that information to reroute the money to families that have been looking for money from deadbeat dads.
So far the program has brought in more than five million dollars, and in one case brought in over thirty thousand dollars in back payments.
DCF says they look at one time payments as an easy way to collect money that's owed.
The agency isn't too far from seizing money won at casinos in the state.
