The LSU softball program lost a legend to retirement this past season when Yvette Girouard called it quits. The challenge of replacing her was going to be as tough as an SEC schedule. But Pat Murphy seems like the perfect fit. The former head coach at Alabama racked up nearly 700 wins in his 13 years at the helm and his connection with coach Girouard and South Louisiana only makes this hire look even better.
Murphy's softball coaching career began in 1990 with Girouard hired him to be an assistant at University of Southwestern Louisiana. The job didn't pay well, only about 6,000 dollars. But it was the start of something that Murphy says has come full circle.
