Neighbor says mother didn't neglect her children

BATON ROUGE, La (FOX44) — Wille Brown Jr. has lived on Erie Street for more than 25 years. He has seen a lot in his lifetime, but what happened Sunday on his street was a first for him.

"There have been a couple of accidents," he says. "There's been at least one murder, but nothing like this with a child."

Sunday morning, police found a one-year-old baby dead, and covered in bruises at Brown's neighbor's home. They say Randy Parker, 23, is charged with the first degree murder of Demarcus Stokes. The child died from blunt force trauma to the head, throat, and extremities.

While police were investigating, they found three other children that had been severely neglected. Those children belonged to another woman, Kierra Golman. She and her boyfriend have rented the home for a long time.

Brown says Golman came to him with her children when the police showed up in front of her house. He got a knock on his door around 6 Sunday morning."The young lady wanted us to keep the children while they do what they do over there," Brown explains.

He was surprised to hear that a child had died in his neighbor's home.

"It's a tragedy about the child that's dead. Nobody wants to hear that," he says. "Anytime somebody dies or gets beaten or something like that. It makes me sad because this does not have to happen."

Brown says he just doesn't think the parents of the three children had anything to do with the murder.

"They have been over here. My wife and the mother are friends. No, she's not neglecting her children."

Police say the three children were taken into custody. Two of the kids had diaper rash so bad that they were bleeding, according to authorities. However, Browns says when he took the children in that Sunday morning, they seemed to be okay.

"One of the twins had diaper rash, but it occurs," he says.

Brown says he's upset that the children have been taken into custody. "They'll be devastated," he explains. "They won't know their real parents. They'll probably be in the system and they'll probably separate the twins."

He hopes they'll be returned home to their mother.

FOX44 attempted to talk to a woman living in the home at the time of the murder. She says she, and the others living there, had no comment on the incident.
