New Baker superintendent shares plans for future
Announces goals at annual school district meeting
BAKER, La (FOX44) -- Just weeks after taking office, Baker's interim superintendent is making plans for the school system. At the annual school district meeting, Dr. Ron Jackson spoke about the goals he has for Baker schools. Those include raising student performance scores and making sure that each school has the tools needed to make that happen.
However, Jackson could face trouble ahead. Sources close to NBC33 tell us some school board members want to bring the former superintendent, Dr. Estes Taplin, back. That could be in place of Jackson. Jackson says he hasn't heard anything about that.
"My focus has been very strategic to not listen to the rumor mill, but to just stay focused on student achievement, increasing our goals, increasing our student outcomes to make sure that there is leadership at every level," says Jackson.
You'll remember, right now, the school district is in a legal battle with Dr. Taplin, who rejected the board's new contract offer.
