BATON ROUGE, La (FOX44) -- Governor Jindal announced Wednesday that the capitol city will be cracking down on violent crimes. The East Baton Rouge Violent Crime Unit was created to fight crime on multiple levels and across agencies. Officials with the unit will work together at the state police building. This will allow them to communicate more quickly and efficient in their fight on crime.

The team will be made up of state police officers and 53 other people from different law enforcement agencies around the parish.

"Our top priority is to keep our people safe. Achieving this goal requires all of us working together at the local law enforcement level, at the state and federal level, and the community level as well," says Governor Jindal.

The unit will also receive more resources from the state crime lab. This includes getting faster results for high-priority cases.
