New leader of the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced

On May 30th President Obama announced his choice to lead the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

He nominated General Martin Dempsey who commanded troops in the Iraq War.

As the top U.S. Military Officer, Dempsey would be the principal military adviser to the President and his National Security Team, including the Secretary of Defense.

If confirmed by the Senate, Dempsey will replace Admiral Mike Mullen when he steps down in October.
