NEW YORK, NY (FOX44) – Taking to the high seas Alvin, Simon, and Theodore set sail on a new chapter in their musical franchise with "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked” a family-friendly offering just in time for the holidays.

Speaking of franchises, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are back to solve another case, reprising their roles as the most famous detectives in "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows". And Meryl Streep certainly isn't going to skip over an awards season without grabbing attention, taking a page out of history, by transforming into former U.K. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher for "The Iron Lady".

Meanwhile making its limited release, the play to screen adaptation of “Carnage” directed by Roman Polanski. The film is about 2-couples who meet after their son's schoolyard fight. Starring Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, John C. Reilly, and Christopher Waltz.

Franchises, family-friendly offerings, and awards season talkers all "for your consideration" at the movies.
